CANDY WITCH COMIC SERIES

The Problem:
There aren't that many well represented plus-sized characters in comics. Fewer as main characters in a series. There are entire demographics left unrepresented well in comic books.

Ideation:
My wife is a massive inspiration for this series. She is plus size, a practicing witch, and an avid comic book reader. I wanted to create a character like her and have that character serve as an inspiration for others. I first drew concept art of The Candy Witch series back in 2014. I wanted to create an iconic look for a main character; akin to Walt Disney's Mickey Mouse or Naoko Takeuchi's Sailor Moon.

Execution:
In 2017, using Adobe Creative Cloud Suite, I produced an eight paged teaser comic that helped establish the central characters, conflict, setting, and lore. The cover art is inspired by the famous Arte Nouveau style works of Alphonse Mucha.

THE WITCH BEHIND
CANDY WITCH

I love comics. My wife loves comics. But the problem we both find with the comic book industry is there isn't a serious market for plus size characters. There are some characters who are plus size in comics, but none are taken seriously in the universe they inhabit. My wife has inspired me to start a comic series that makes the plus size character the main character. Why stop at just plus sized characters? As the series progresses, I want to include all characters of all body type varieties, genders, and sexuality while challenging morality, social constructs, and traditional storytelling. This series is my passion project.
